An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Remove discriminatory provisions against transgender rights and health access

H.R. 5893: Prioritizing Discrimination Against Transgender Individuals The Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for fiscal year 2024 (H.R. 5893) contains concerning provisions that discriminate against transgender individuals and undermine their rights. Prohibiting federal funds from being used to affirm the gender identities of transgender people or challenge state laws that target them is unacceptable. Furthermore, banning gender-affirming medical care and defining gender strictly based on biological characteristics at birth disregards the scientific consensus and lived experiences of transgender people. These measures promote harmful ideologies and enable discrimination against a vulnerable population. As public servants, our duty is to protect the rights and well-being of all citizens. I urge you to remove these discriminatory provisions and uphold equality and human rights for all.
