Why shield a convicted criminal from accountability for his many other crimes?

The US is falling apart, partially because Trump is allowing for killings in the streets and murdering abroad, but also because we have a 34-count convicted felon being shielded from any type of accountability as it relates to a child sex trafficking ring he's extremely involved in. I don't understand why Republicans are pretending any of this is normal or acceptable.
