Vote No on This Defense Bill. All of It.

I am writing as your constituent to demand you vote no on any final version of the National Defense Authorization Act that includes the provisions currently in H.R. 8800. This bill authorizes over a trillion dollars, and it should not become a vehicle for voter suppression, unaccountable foreign military entanglement, and an unauthorized war. 1. Voter suppression: Even the Heritage Foundation's own election fraud database, built specifically to document voting fraud, has been found by independent reviewers to contain only a few dozen confirmed cases of noncitizen voting across five decades, out of well over a billion ballots cast. The problem this bill claims to solve barely exists. Meanwhile, the SAVE Act requires in-person documentary proof of citizenship just to register to vote or update an address. It burdens military families and veterans who relocate constantly, and it puts an estimated 69 million citizens at risk because their legal documents don't match their birth records—and the bill provides no streamlined process for marriage or name-change certificate. 2. Israel military integration: The bill contains Section 219, directing the Secretary of Defense to designate a Pentagon "executive agent" to oversee a new US-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative, deepening military integration with reduced congressional oversight. Representative Thomas Massie and Senator Bernie Sanders have both called for its removal, from opposite ends of the political spectrum, and House leadership blocked a floor vote on stripping it out. 3. Unauthorized war: This bill funds a war Congress never authorized. An amendment barring FY27 funds for military action against Iran without congressional authorization was blocked from even receiving a vote. Senators Tim Kaine and Richard Blumenthal opposed advancing the Senate's version for the same reason. 4. Reckless spending, expanding nukes: The bill authorizes over $25 billion to replenish munitions stockpiles that this administration's own military actions depleted, while simultaneously expanding our nuclear posture: raising plutonium pit production to 180 per year and locking in a floor of 400 deployed ICBMs. We are paying to refill what was recklessly spent, and expanding capacity we didn't need to expand. 5. Stripping troop healthcare: Buried in the personnel provisions is a ban on TRICARE coverage for gender-related medical care for service members, stripping healthcare from people who volunteered to serve this country. None of this is about defense readiness. I am calling on you to vote no on any NDAA that retains these provisions, and to fight for their removal in conference if it comes to that. I expect you to act.
