An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend voting rights, reject authoritarian election subversion

23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

Any attempts by Trump or his allies to undermine the integrity of elections through voter suppression tactics, purges of voter rolls, or sowing disinformation must be forcefully rejected. The right to vote freely and fairly is a sacred pillar of democracy. We cannot tolerate systemic disenfranchisement targeting certain groups like communities of color, women, students, or the military. Extraordinary measures like declaring national emergencies or using vigilante groups to challenge legitimate ballots are authoritarian power grabs that threaten the very foundation of our nation. Protecting the will of the people expressed through legitimate elections is paramount, regardless of election outcomes. We must proactively take legal action, mobilize massive voter education efforts, enlist independent election monitors, and Congress must pass laws to further enshrine explicit voting rights protections to uphold our democracy against any strongman subversion attempts. The continuity of free and fair elections is non-negotiable.
