An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop intimidating a free press

9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

Funny how there’s never an issue when Fox News or right-wing radio shows promote Republican politicians all-day, every day … but all of a sudden it’s a major problem when a single Democratic lawmaker is supposed to be interviewed.  Despite the threats of retaliation, Stephen Colbert exposed the Trump administration on live television and directed viewers to watch his interview with James Talarico, a leading Democratic candidate for Senate in Texas, online.  This comes after the FCC probed ‘The View’ for interviewing Talarico and warned Kimmel and Colbert that they could be de-platformed if they are “out of line” with “Trump’s agenda.”  Once again, Stephen Colbert is risking his job to stand against censorship and champion free speech while our elected officials stand by and wait for some imaginary perfect moment to intervene. The United States constitution provides binding legal rights to free speech and a free press. Trump and his cronies are using their influence to bend that rule. They’re leaning on the FCC who is in turn leaning on the networks to suppress accessibility to valuable information for the American public. Tell Trump the constitution bends a knee to no one. Stop the interference with a free press.
