Gentlemen, it is painfully obvious to anyone who is minimally aware of reality that our addiction to single-use plastic is destroying our oceans and our precious water supplies. There are many natural biodegradable fibers like hemp that can be used to create bags and other packaging instead of our use of the poisonous petrochemicals that the big oil companies have foisted upon the world. If you care more about the kind of world we are recklessly creating for your children and grandchildren than the impact of the stock prices of fossil fuel companies on your portfolios, show some leadership now before it is too late. Market forces are amoral: rational and responsible leaders must regain agency and make the hard and courageous decisions to put the health and survival of human beings above the rapacious greed of capitalist corporations. Government can incentivize the agricultural sector to grow crops such as hemp that can easily be made into durable and biodegradable materials. If we persist in relying upon impersonal market mechanisms to determine the future of our country and our world, we literally have very little time left on this planet.
