Don’t Let Congress Destroy the Arts

Reject Deep Cuts to the NEA and NEH This week, the House Interior Appropriations Subcommittee is proposing to cut funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) by nearly 35%, from $207 million to $135 million each. This would be the lowest level of support since 2007 and would inflict lasting damage on arts programs in every state and district. I urge you to reject this proposal and support full restoration of NEA and NEH funding. These Endowments Strengthen Communities Arts and humanities programs generate jobs, stimulate small businesses, and support veterans, students, and rural communities. NEA grants exist in all 435 congressional districts. In 2023, the creative sector contributed $1.2 trillion to GDP and 2.6 million jobs—yet the NEA receives only 0.003% of federal spending. This is a high-return investment, not a luxury. Cutting Arts Funding Hurts the Public Since May, numerous local programs—such as youth theater in Texas, museums in Massachusetts, and symphonies in New York—have already lost grants due to anticipatory cuts. If the $135 million cap is enacted, outreach, mental health, educational, and cultural programs will disappear across the country. Act Now to Restore Full Funding I urge you to vote against these proposed cuts and advocate for at least $207 million in FY26 funding for each agency.
