Transportation Secretary Duffy warned that air traffic controllers will miss their second paycheck next week and that Americans will see “mass chaos” in our skies. He’s right about the consequences. But this crisis has clear origins, and it’s time for leadership that puts working Americans first.
Right now, millions of Americans are discovering they cannot afford health insurance for 2026. The economy is losing billions of dollars. This is not governance. This is a manufactured crisis, and Americans are paying the price.
Without extending the enhanced ACA subsidies, health insurance premiums will more than double for subsidized enrollees, from an average of $888 annually in 2025 to $1,904 in 2026 (KFF, October 2025). A family of four earning $75,000 will pay $3,367 more per year. Four million people will lose coverage entirely (Congressional Budget Office). Open enrollment began November 1. People are making healthcare decisions right now without knowing if they can afford coverage.
At the same time, the tariff policies are costing American households between $1,200 and $2,400 per year (Tax Foundation, November 2025). Manufacturing has lost over 40,000 jobs since April. The shutdown has already cost our economy more than $4 billion (U.S. Travel Association). Tuesday’s election results delivered a clear message about the priorities Americans support.
Seventy-eight percent of Americans across all political parties support extending these healthcare subsidies. This isn’t a partisan issue. It’s about whether families can afford to see a doctor.
I urge you to end this shutdown immediately by extending the ACA subsidies. No more delays. No more blame-shifting. Americans need affordable healthcare and economic stability, and we need it now. That’s your job.
