Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to help re-introduce and co-sponsor the Social Security 2100 Act.
Congress – largely owing to Republican obstruction – hasn’t enhanced Social Security in 50 years. People contribute to Social Security with every paycheck and it’s long past time to ensure retirement benefits will keep up with Americans expenses.
One of its authors, Congressman John B. Larson, has devoted much time to explaining the bill through his office website. Its good legislation written out in great detail and easy-to-understand terms. Here are just a few of the 12 essential points of the bill:
• Increases benefits 2% across the board for all Social Security beneficiaries for the first time in 52 years!
• Improves the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA), so it reflects the inflation actually experienced by seniors.
• Increases benefits to boost lower income seniors.
• Improves benefits for widows and widowers from two-income households.
• Restores student benefits up to age 26, for the dependent children of disabled, deceased, or retired workers.
The bill has a plan to keep Social Security solvent and pay for the benefits included in it. It’s a win-win. More detail here: https://larson.house.gov/issues/social-security-2100-act
I fully support this bill and would like to see it speedily re-introduced in Congress as a counterpoint to the utter destruction of Social Security. The people need things to rally around. This bill can certainly be one of them.
Please work with Congressman Larson and other allies to bring it back. Thank you for your service.
