The soaring cost of rent is a main driver of the cost of living crisis impacting working families in this country. 21 million Americans are paying more than 30% of their income in rent and we have more homeless people than ever previously recorded. We are in a housing emergency.
I’m writing to urge you to oppose any cuts to housing funding. The White House’s proposed federal budget to slash 44% of HUD’s budget would push more than 9 million people closer to homelessness.
Housing is a human right—not a luxury for the rich. The federal government should be protecting renters, not subsidizing landlords. We need a Homes Guarantee, real rent control, and major investments in deeply affordable and supportive housing.
I urge you to cosponsor Rep. Omar’s Homes for All Act, which would make a trillion dollar investment in permanently affordable housing.
Please stand with poor and working-class people—not with billionaires and corporations profiting off our housing crisis. Reject cuts to HUD. Cosponsor the Homes for All Act. And commit to housing as a human right.
