Urgent Action Needed Regarding Federal Workforce Reduction

I am writing as a concerned federal civilian employee to urge you to address the recent actions taken by the current administration that are drastically reshaping our workforce. I am deeply troubled by the administration’s approach to reducing the size of the federal workforce by dismissing large numbers of probationary employees—many of whom have been hired to serve critical functions—as well as by shuttering entire agencies that are essential to our nation’s public services.
Recent reports indicate that thousands of probationary workers, including those in agencies such as the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Department of Education, have been abruptly terminated without due consideration for their performance or the continuity of essential programs ( https://www.reuters.com/world/us/mass-firings-federal-workers-begin-trump-musk-purge-us-government-2025-02-13/; https://apnews.com/article/159a6de411622c2eb651016b1e99da37). These measures not only undermine the stability of our civil service but also risk disrupting services that millions of Americans depend on—from public health initiatives to veteran care.
Furthermore, the closure or severe downsizing of agencies like USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, which play vital roles both domestically and internationally, could have long-lasting consequences on our government’s ability to operate effectively and safeguard the public interest. Shuttering such agencies may lead to unintended negative impacts on critical research, disaster relief, consumer protection, and international aid programs, which in turn affect our national security and economic well-being ( https://www.reuters.com/world/us/mass-firings-federal-workers-begin-trump-musk-purge-us-government-2025-02-13/).
As someone on the front lines of public service, I am deeply committed to upholding the quality and effectiveness of government programs. I believe that safeguarding our federal workforce is essential to ensuring that we continue to serve the American people efficiently and fairly. Your leadership on this issue is crucial, and I urge you to speak out against policies that jeopardize both our jobs and the critical services we provide.
Thank you for your time and for your ongoing commitment to protecting the interests of federal employees and the public. I look forward to your response and to hearing how you plan to address these significant concerns.
