POLITICAL POWER IS BEING MISUSED & ABUSED AGAINST CONSTITUENTS. AND THE COUNTRY

Question of the day…why is an American president given a national platform on one of our major media outlets to spread disinformation, lies, and his own personal opinions masquerading as the truth, and by and large allowed to get away with it?
That’s what we were subjected to in NBC’s recent interview. It’s infuriating. And normal these days.
But it should not be normal for a president to go on TV and say police officers brutally assaulted by the same people he encouraged to riot at the Capitol on January 6 deserved it. To say that the FBI took part in framing ‘innocent’ insurgents. To say this and more. And crickets from his GOP.
The very GOP members who were running and hiding in fear of their lives from ‘peaceful’ protesters. With only the actions of said law enforcement to protect them.
This is all cowardly beyond the pale. It is disgraceful. Shameful. And a complete aberration and perversion of a First Amendment that even the president of the United States should take care with.
Words matter when they come out of the president’s mouth. Even when they are lies. Or untruths. Or said in sole pursuit of his own interests.
And to prove their loyalty to the guy who’s destroying their party and possibility their careers, Senate Republicans passed a measure to provide about $70B in additional funding to ICE and CBP. They did so without meeting any of the reforms Democrats had demanded after the killing of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE.
The GOP did this even while saying that Dems were trying to starve immigration efforts. Screamed this even though the OBBBA provided an astonishing $191B to fund DHS. With $75B for ICE and $65B for CBP.
This is seven times ICE’s previous annual budget and four times that of CBP. And funds were designed to last through September 30, 2029.
So we the people get to fund the inhumane actions of immigration control. While the president wants to pay guys who assaulted police trying to protect lawmakers.
But at least in the process Republicans were forced to show their hand by voting against measures popular with we the people.
They blocked proposals to stop Trump from establishing a $1.776B slush fund, with DOJ complicity. And blocked prevention of any such fund from giving payouts to people convicted of assaulting law enforcement on 1/6/21.
(Read, an utter perversion.)
They blocked a proposal to bar the use of federal funds or private donations for Trump’s ballroom unless Congress explicitly approved.
(Read, we the people pay, or payola received from anyone wanting access and/presidential favor.)
They blocked a proposal to bar William Pulte, the director of the FHFA from also serving as the DNI director. It’s obvious that no one could or should direct two agencies. But Trump has announced that Pulte will be the acting director of national intelligence, circumventing oversight.
(Read, this puts Pulte in place through the midterms, with the obvious plan to weaponize intelligence against the president’s political opponents.)
So when we hear the GOP and its leadership accusing the other side of supporting lawlessness and chaos and dirty tricks, please try and remember reality.
Because in November we need to show them we see it all. And we’re done with it.
