Stop the Dismantling of the CFPB – Protect Consumers, Not Billionaires

I urge you to take immediate action to stop the dismantling of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) by President Trump and his billionaire allies, particularly Elon Musk. Since its creation after the 2008 financial crisis, the CFPB has secured over $21 billion in relief for more than 200 million Americans, holding financial giants like Wells Fargo, Capital One, and Equifax accountable for fraudulent and predatory practices.
Now, Musk’s operatives, under the so-called "Department of Government Efficiency" (DOGE), have taken control of CFPB systems, locked out career staff from key accounts, and frozen enforcement actions. This intrusion threatens sensitive consumer financial data and shields corporate misconduct from scrutiny. Trump’s appointees have further paralyzed the agency, blocking critical consumer protections, including rules against predatory lending and medical debt reporting.
Musk has openly called for eliminating the CFPB, and his allies inside the administration are taking deliberate steps to make that a reality. Without the CFPB’s oversight, banks, lenders, and digital payment platforms—including Musk’s own “X Money” initiative—will be free to exploit consumers unchecked.
Congress must act now to protect the CFPB’s independence. I urge you to hold hearings, demand transparency, and pass legislation to ensure that this vital watchdog remains strong. Everyday Americans—not billionaires—must come first.
