I write in support of Senator Mark Kelly and in opposition to Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth’s action yesterday targeting him. Using Pentagon authority to punish a sitting U.S. Senator for Lawful Speech is an abuse of power and a threat to civilian oversight. This retaliation demands congressional scrutiny. Congress must defend its members and the separation of powers.
