An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress

Oppose S. 4753, the Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024

602 so far! Help us get to 1,000 signers!

I am writing to ask you to oppose opposition S. 4753, the so-called "Energy Permitting Reform Act of 2024" which has been called Manchin's latest dirty deal by activists and climate hawks. This dangerous and short-sighted legislation would enact pieces of the harmful agenda of Project 2025, hurt American consumers, wreck President Biden's climate legacy, and only benefit fossil fuel companies and polluters. The legislation guts bedrock environmental protections, endangers public health, opens up tens of millions of acres of public lands and hundreds of millions of acres offshore waters to fossil fuel extraction. It gives public lands to mining companies, and would ram through the construction of fossil fuel export projects that harm frontline communities and perpetuate the climate crisis. Senator Manchin is trying to sneak through his dirty deal in the waning days of his lame duck session as chair of the Senate Energy Committee. For too long Senators of both parties have allowed Joe Manchin to dictate US energy policy. No single Senator should be given deference or control of the process, especially 100 days from a major national election. I urge you to vote no on S. 4753 and do everything in your power to block it.
