A Majority Of Americans Agree: Impeach Chief Justice Roberts

I am writing to express my concern regarding the current state of the United States Supreme Court and to ask for your views on Congressman Steve Cohen’s recently introduced Articles of Impeachment against Chief Justice John Roberts. For much of our nation’s history, the Supreme Court has been regarded as an independent institution worthy of public trust, even when its decisions were controversial. Today, however, many Americans have lost confidence in the Court’s impartiality. A growing perception exists that the Court’s decisions are increasingly influenced by politics, wealth, and ideology rather than consistent legal principles. Congressman Cohen argues that under Chief Justice Roberts’ leadership, the Court has repeatedly issued decisions that appear to favor partisan interests, particularly in election and redistricting cases. Critics point to seemingly inconsistent applications of legal standards, creating the impression that similar cases receive different treatment depending on the political outcome. Whether intentional or not, such perceptions undermine public confidence in the judiciary. I am also troubled by decisions that many believe have expanded the influence of wealthy interests in politics, weakened democratic representation, and placed elected officials beyond the full reach of accountability under the law. The Court’s ruling on presidential immunity, in particular, raised concerns that no individual should be treated as above the law. Equally concerning are ongoing ethical questions involving Supreme Court justices. The Court’s resistance to stronger ethics standards and questions surrounding potential conflicts of interest have further damaged public trust. Americans deserve confidence that every case is decided by judges who are fully independent and free from even the appearance of impropriety. While impeachment is an extraordinary remedy and should never be undertaken lightly, the concerns raised by Congressman Cohen warrant serious examination and discussion. At a minimum, Congress should carefully review the allegations and consider whether reforms are needed to restore public faith in the Supreme Court and strengthen judicial accountability. I respectfully ask for your position on these impeachment articles and what steps, if any, you believe Congress should take to ensure the Supreme Court remains an impartial, ethical, and trusted institution. Thank you for your time and consideration.
