White House Banning FBI Oversight of ICE Violence, No Surprise

I am writing to express my absolute condemnation of the recent directive ordering the F.B.I. to halt investigations into confrontations with immigration agents.
This decision represents an alarming abandonment of federal oversight, functioning to shield Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents from critical scrutiny precisely when independent accountability is most desperately needed.
By abruptly ending these inquiries, the administration is effectively blinding the primary mechanism used to uncover evidence of excessive force and federal misconduct.
This policy shift occurs amid a mounting national outcry following a severe spike in lethal encounters. Just this month, ICE agents deployed deadly force during routine vehicle stops in separate, fatal encounters in Houston, Texas, and Biddeford, Maine—killing Lorenzo Salgado Araujo and 25-year-old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero.
Shockingly, records reveal that neither victim was the actual target of the active enforcement operations.
Stripping the F.B.I. of its investigative role eliminates vital external checks and balances, fostering an environment of total impunity for immigration officers who already operate without body-worn cameras.
I strongly urge you to publicly challenge this dangerous policy change, demand full transparency, and mandate strict independent oversight.
