An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Fund the US Postal Service

Fund the US Postal Service I am a voting constituent writing to urge immediate legislative action to address the severe financial crisis facing the U.S. Postal Service. The USPS is at a critical juncture, projected to run out of cash by 2027—or even sooner. The agency has been forced to take the drastic step of pausing employer contributions to the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) simply to maintain liquidity. This is an unacceptable temporary fix for a systemic problem caused by Congressional inaction. The USPS is a vital public service, not a business meant for profit. I strongly oppose any efforts to privatize our postal system or reduce service standards. Such moves would devastate rural communities and small businesses that rely on the universal service obligation. Congress must act now to provide direct funding, increase the archaic $15 billion borrowing limit, and lift the legislative constraints that prevent the USPS from modernizing. Our postal workers are the backbone of this infrastructure; they deserve fair pay and fully funded pensions. We cannot allow this essential institution to fail. I urge you to support robust funding for the USPS to ensure it remains a public good for generations to come.
