An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop the Dangerous Assault on the Judiciary Branch

37 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

The proposal to undermine the authority and independence of the federal judiciary is a dangerous assault on the fundamental system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution. Eliminating district courts or defunding them for issuing rulings that displease the executive branch would eviscerate the judiciary's vital role as a coequal branch of government. Threats to retaliate against judges upholding the rule of law subvert democratic norms and the separation of powers. I urge you to reject any attempts to punish the courts for fulfilling their duty to serve as an impartial arbiter and safeguard of constitutional rights and liberties. Preserving an independent judiciary free from partisan intimidation is essential to maintaining a functional democracy governed by laws, not the capricious whims of any president or ruling party. Uphold your oath to defend the Constitution against all threats, foreign and domestic.
