Today I take pen in hand and write to express my strong support for H.R. 4405, the Epstein Files Transparency Act, introduced last month by Representative Ro Khanna of California and co-sponsored by 18 others, including Republican Representative Thomas Massie. This bipartisan effort underscores the critical importance of transparency in our justice system, particularly concerning the Jeffrey Epstein case.
H.R. 4405 is a crucial step towards ensuring public access to vital information. I wholeheartedly agree with Section 2, part (b) of the act, which mandates that all unclassified records, documents, communications, and investigative materials in the possession of the Department of Justice be made publicly available in a searchable and downloadable format. This level of accessibility is essential for maintaining public trust and accountability, and so far, that’s been lacking from the Trump Justice Department.
In reading the bill, I strongly support the 'Prohibited Grounds For Withholding' clause. It is imperative that no record be withheld due to concerns of embarrassment, reputational harm, or political sensitivity. These factors should never outweigh the public's right to know, especially in a case of such significant public interest.
The Epstein case has far-reaching implications for our political discourse, our society as a whole, and full transparency to prevent future abuses. By supporting H.R.4405 you will be upholding the principle that no one is above the law, regardless of their wealth, status, or connections.
I urge you to vote in favor of H.R. 4405 when you return to session. Your support for this act will demonstrate your commitment to transparency, justice, and the rule of law.
The American people deserve nothing less than full disclosure in this matter. The time for action is now – let us not allow this opportunity for truth and accountability to slip away. Thank you.
