Special Session Action Needed on HB24-1034, HB24-1355, and Mental Health Funding

I urge you to act in the August 21, 2025 special session to fix HB24-1034 and HB24-1355 and fund mental health services. These laws let violent offenders avoid trial by being found incompetent, leading to short-term commitments and quick release. Victims lose justice, and our communities face preventable danger. Cases like Joel Lang’s admitted killing of Kristy Kerst and Solomon Galligan’s attempted school abduction show the urgent need for reform. Amend these laws, create secure criminal-to-civil commitment pathways, and fund the infrastructure to keep dangerous individuals off our streets. This must be a top priority for public safety.
