An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Vote No on HR 2853

15 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I'm asking you to vote no on HR 2853. This bill is being sold as a public safety measure, but it's actually a smokescreen that would give ICE sweeping authority to surveil and detain people in everyday spaces like grocery stores and shopping centers. HR 2853 doesn't make anyone safer. What it does is expand immigration enforcement powers into places where families should feel secure going about their daily lives. This bill removes critical limits on where and how those powers can be used. When people can't buy groceries or run errands without fear of detention, that's not law enforcement. That's intimidation. Communities become less safe when residents are afraid to leave their homes, report crimes, or cooperate with local police. Vote no on HR 2853.
