Protect Disabled Americans Living at Home

I urge you to oppose the proposed rule that could reduce SSI benefits for disabled adults who live with low-income family members. Many people with Down syndrome, autism, intellectual disabilities, dementia, and other significant disabilities rely on SSI while living at home with parents or relatives. Cutting their benefits because they live with family would increase financial hardship, undermine community-based living, and could force some people into more costly institutional care. This proposal follows other recent federal actions that have raised concerns about protections for people with disabilities. Congress should reject policies that weaken support for disabled Americans and instead strengthen the programs that help people live safely and with dignity in their communities. Please oppose any rule that would reduce SSI for disabled adults living with family and protect these essential supports.
