1.5 Million Working Texans Have No Health Insurance. Expand Medicaid Now
10 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
Texas is one of 10 states that still has not expanded Medicaid. That decision leaves 1.5 million working Texans without coverage, people who earn too much for traditional Medicaid and too little for private insurance. Texas also turns down roughly $5 billion in annual federal matching funds every year it refuses to expand. That money goes to other states. Meanwhile, uninsured Texans use emergency rooms as their primary care system, and hospitals pass that uncompensated cost to insured patients and employers through higher premiums.
On January 1, 2026, enhanced ACA subsidies expired after Congress declined to renew them. Premiums more than doubled for 22 million Americans. Texas had the highest ACA marketplace enrollment in the country. Hundreds of thousands of Texans lost affordable coverage or dropped it.
The state cannot restore federal subsidies. It can expand Medicaid. That vote is yours to take this session. I am asking you to bring expansion to the floor, support state-level assistance for Texans in the coverage gap, and stop leaving $5 billion a year on the table while 1.5 million of your constituents go without care.
