An open letter to the U.S. Congress

988 service ending for LGBTQIA+ community

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

It has come to my attention that the Trump administration is ending the option for LGBTQIA+ callers to the 988 service to be able to speak with someone who specializes in the types of concerns they may have which would lead them to threaten their own lives. Basically, the administration is saying that they would rather LGBTQIA+ people die than receive care that could be affirming to their personal situation. Shame on them and shame on you if you don’t speak out against this. While the LGBTQIA+ community only represents a small percentage of the overall population, they disproportionately suffer because of the disdain with which another relatively small percentage of the overall population—who happen to have power—hold them.
