The End Tuberculosis Now Act of 2023 aims to accelerate efforts to prevent, diagnose, and treat tuberculosis (TB) globally. TB remains a major public health threat, causing over 1.6 million deaths in 2021 alone. This legislation seeks to align U.S. assistance with the World Health Organization's End TB Strategy and the Stop TB Partnership's Global Plan. It emphasizes comprehensive programs for active case finding, treatment of all forms of TB including drug-resistant strains, preventive therapy for high-risk groups, health system strengthening, research for new tools, and leveraging TB platforms for pandemic preparedness. Increased U.S. funding and leadership are crucial to meet the ambitious global targets of treating 40 million people with active TB and providing preventive therapy to 30 million by 2023. This act can help recover progress lost due to COVID-19 disruptions and catalyze further investments from other donors. By prioritizing efforts to end TB, we can save millions of lives, curb antimicrobial resistance, and bolster global health security. I urge you to support this impactful legislation.
