Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
It’s pretty sad when foreign leaders say more about supporting democracy, and by extension the rule of law, than certain of our American ones.
I’m speaking of the succinct encapsulation put forth by the Zambian president, who stepped forward to answer a question addressed to V-P Harris for her opinion on the current firestorm about whether every person, even an ex-president, should be held accountable under our system of justice.
His response.
“L]et’s remove names from your question,” he said.
“Let’s put what we decided we will do to govern ourselves in an orderly manner. First, our constitutions, bedrock law. Then, secondary laws, other regulations create a platform or framework around which we agreed, either as Americans or as Zambians, to govern ourselves. And so, to live within those confines.
“And when there’s transgression against law, it does not matter who is involved. I think that is what the rule of law means.”
That’s what we, as American citizens, believe as well. And it’s insane that some of your members, elected officials all, seem to believe the opposite.
To think that DJT is the one that commands such allegiance, such power to persuade, such ability to make people crash and burn their own reputations and histories, is incomprehensible. Soul selling on display.
Even if it is April Fool’s Day.
