Accountability for the Abandonment of Americans in the Middle East

I am writing to express my absolute outrage regarding the catastrophic lack of a civilian evacuation plan following the launch of military attacks on Iran on February 28. It is an staggering failure of governance to initiate a massive military offensive against Iran without first securing a clear, viable exit path for the hundreds of thousands of American citizens currently in the region. To tell our people to "depart now" while the administration’s own military actions have resulted in cratered runways and shuttered airspaces is not a "plan"—it is clearly after-the-fact flailing around by an unprepared administration. As my representative in Washington, I expect you to prioritize the lives of these stranded families over further political or military escalation. Specifically, I am asking you to: -- Demand immediate transparency from the State Department and the White House regarding why "Global Mobility" teams were under-resourced and caught off-guard. -- Authorize emergency funding specifically for military-led civilian extractions and charter flights from neutral hubs like Amman or Cairo. -- Hold public oversight hearings to determine how this administration could be so "laser-focused" on a strike while being completely blind to the safety of our own citizens on the ground. The "shelter-in-place" directives currently being issued are at best insufficient. It is time for Congress to do the work to help get American safely out and to hold the administration accountable for this epic failure. I will be following your office's actions on this matter closely.
