Protect USPS: Keep It Public and Enable New Revenue Streams

Congress must reject any proposals to privatize the United States Postal Service and instead remove the artificial barriers preventing USPS from thriving. For nearly 250 years, the postal service has bound our nation together by serving every ZIP code. Privatization would devastate rural communities, seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities who depend on mail for prescriptions, social security checks, and essential correspondence. USPS needs new revenue streams to succeed. Pass the Banking for All Act to provide no-fee bank accounts through post offices. One in four American households is unbanked or underbanked, including half of all Black households. Approve appropriations language directing USPS to pilot affordable financial services in ten locations. Replace the aging vehicle fleet with union-built electric vehicles, not Louis DeJoy's contract for combustion engines that are barely more efficient than thirty-year-old trucks. Electric vehicles will save money long-term through lower fuel and maintenance costs while protecting mail carriers and frontline communities from toxic pollution. Pass Senator Klobuchar's Election Mail Act to ensure voting by mail is safe, secure, and accessible regardless of ZIP code. USPS is a public institution that serves all Americans. Give it the tools to build a sustainable future.
