Reject Section 702 FISA Reauthorization After April 30

When the current Section 702 extension expires on April 30, vote no on any reauthorization. This surveillance authority violates the constitutional rights of American citizens and must end permanently. Section 702 allows warrantless collection of communications involving noncitizens abroad, but it sweeps up data from Americans who contact those targets. That means my communications can be collected and searched without a warrant, without probable cause, and without my knowledge. The Fourth Amendment doesn't have an exception for when the government finds it convenient. The Trump administration pushed for an 18-month renewal with zero reforms. When House leaders tried adding modest warrant requirements, they still couldn't get enough votes because members from both parties recognize this program is fundamentally broken. Even a two-week punt shows how toxic this issue has become. National security officials always claim these powers are vital, but they've abused FISA authorities before and they'll do it again. No amount of tweaking or oversight fixes a program built on warrantless surveillance of Americans. Vote against any extension or reauthorization when this comes back up. Let Section 702 expire for good.
