An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
Fund Public Education in Texas NOW!
9 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!
I am writing as a concerned Texan to urge you to prioritize robust and equitable funding for public education for every child in our state, from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade.
Strong public schools are the backbone of a healthy democracy, a thriving economy, and a united Texas. When every child—regardless of their ZIP code—has access to well-funded classrooms, qualified teachers, modern resources, and safe facilities, our communities grow stronger, and our future becomes brighter.
Underfunding our schools hurts far more than test scores. It limits opportunity, drives teachers out of the profession, widens the gap between wealthy and struggling districts, and ultimately costs our state in lost potential. Every dollar we invest in early education through high school graduation is returned many times over in reduced crime rates, increased earnings, and a more skilled workforce ready to compete in the global economy.
Texas children only get one chance at a childhood education. We cannot ask them to wait while adults debate their worth. I urge you to champion policies that:
• Fully fund the state’s share of public education costs, so districts aren’t forced to raise local property taxes to meet basic needs.
• Ensure competitive pay and benefits for teachers and staff, so we can recruit and retain the very best for our students.
• Invest in early childhood education, where research shows the greatest return for both children and taxpayers.
• Provide resources for modern technology, safe facilities, and programs that meet the needs of all learners, including those with disabilities and English language learners.
The future of Texas is sitting in our classrooms today. I ask you to stand with parents, teachers, and communities in fully funding public education for every child in our state.
