Urge Immediate Action Against Russian Aggression and Support for NATO Allies

The recent escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO demands immediate and decisive action from Congress. Russian drones have violated Polish airspace 19 times, forcing Poland to invoke NATO Article 4. This unprecedented aggression, coupled with the shooting down of Russian drones by Polish and Dutch forces, brings us dangerously close to military conflict in Europe.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk's warning that we are closer to war than at any time since World War II cannot be ignored. The pattern of Russian aggression extends beyond military provocations. Saboteurs, likely backed by Russia, have been causing problems across Europe since 2014, including a recent arson attack on electricity pylons in Berlin that left thousands without power. These actions are part of a larger strategy to destabilize Europe and fracture the transatlantic alliance.
The Trump administration's perceived inaction and mixed messages regarding NATO commitments have only emboldened Russia. Reports of the U.S. pulling back core security guarantees following a meeting between President Trump and Poland's president are deeply concerning. This wavering stance invites further aggression from Russia, as evidenced by attacks on EU and British offices in Ukraine and GPS jamming of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plane.
I urge Congress to take immediate action to counter these threats. We must push the administration to implement proportionate and prompt punishments against Russia. This should include:
1. Imposing more stringent sanctions on Russia.
2. Strengthening NATO's eastern flank with robust border defenses.
3. Fully arming and supporting Ukraine to protect itself.
These measures are crucial to upholding our treaty obligations and maintaining peace in Europe. The upcoming Zapad 2025 military exercises in Belarus, which Russia has historically used to move troops closer to NATO's eastern flank, underscore the urgency of our response.
Ignoring Russian aggression or delaying our response will only invite further provocations. We must stand firm with our NATO and Ukrainian allies, as we have agreed to in treaties that have preserved peace in Europe for decades. The time for action is now – before we find ourselves in a full-scale military conflict that could have been prevented.
