The proposed cuts to Medicaid funding would be devastating for Pennsylvania and its residents. Estimates show that at least 7.6 million people could lose their health insurance coverage nationwide with these cuts. In Pennsylvania alone, hundreds of thousands would lose access to this vital program that provides healthcare to low-income individuals and families. This would exacerbate the existing struggles rural hospitals face, potentially forcing more to shut their doors due to billions of dollars in lost federal aid. Furthermore, Governor Shapiro has made it clear that the state does not have the financial resources to compensate for these draconian federal cuts. As he stated, "There are no dollars available at the state level to make up for these cuts at the federal level. So if they cut someone off Medicaid, they're off. We will not be able to fix that for them." Stripping healthcare from the most vulnerable members of our communities is unacceptable and goes against providing a basic quality of life for all. I urge you to reject any proposals that would slash Medicaid funding and instead work to strengthen this vital safety net program that millions rely on for essential medical care. Protecting Medicaid is paramount to upholding Pennsylvanians' health and well-being.
