Protect the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) safeguards our collective history, protects the public's right to know, and ensures transparency and accountability in government. It is a critical institution for researchers, educators, students, journalists, and all citizens who value the preservation of historical records and the principles of democracy.
About 3% of NARA employees have already received reduction-in-force notices as part of a broader executive order aimed at downsizing the federal workforce through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). These cuts will first impact public-facing services, including delays in veteran record requests, reductions in open hours, and canceled educational programs. It will also reduce transparency and accountability in government, removing a critically important right for the American people.
I am calling on your to fully support and protect the integrity of the National Archives of the United States, ensuring that it continues to fulfill its critical role in preserving and providing non-partisan access to our nation's history. The preservation of records, the constancy of truth, and the ability of Americans to hold our government accountable rely on a fully functioning, independent, and professional National Archives.
