An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Please do not pass H. J. Resolution 75

Here's the letter body: Please do not pass H. J. Joint resolution 75. As outlined in the Energy Conservation Standards, we are looking at saving a massive amount of energy, and potentially money for consumers, with the ECS change. “This represents a savings of 6.5 percent relative to the energy use of this equipment in the case without new and amended standards (referred to as the ‘‘no-new-standards case’’). The cumulative net present value (‘‘NPV’’) of total consumer benefits of the standards for CRE ranges from $1.32 billion 2023$ (at a 7-percent discount rate) to $3.43 billion 2023$ (at a 3-percent discount rate). This NPV expresses the estimated total value of future operating-cost savings minus the estimated increased equipment costs for CRE purchased during the period 2029– 2058.” And that isn’t even including the potential health and environmental benefits included in that standard. The 117.7 million to be spent from manufacturers to meet this new expectation is easily recouped over the course of 39 years nearly 10 fold. This is a net win for everyone, including manufacturers who will get to sell new equipment to large companies looking for that oh so sweet energy savings on their electric bills. Please stop this joint resolution and let the environment standards stand.
