No Layoffs and Furloughed Federal Workers Deserve Backpay

Federal workers who have been furloughed due to Congress not being able to compromise on the budget certainly deserve backpay. If not for moral goodness or compassionate principles, do it for practical logistical reasons- if you want to retain trained, experienced employees, they need to know their paychecks are secure even if the government can't agree on anything. This country depends on a veritable army of federal employees to keep the wheels turning smoothly, and if they leave for other fields due to financial instability, the country as a whole will suffer.
