Oppose the FY 2026 Budget Cuts That Threaten America’s Future

I am writing to urge you to reject the draconian budget cuts proposed in the Fiscal Year 2026 budget submitted by President Trump. Across the country, Americans are speaking out. Approval ratings for the administration’s early actions have plummeted, and more than 225 lawsuits have been filed challenging the legality of many of its executive decisions—particularly those involving sweeping funding cuts and unilateral restructuring of vital government programs. These lawsuits reflect deep and widespread alarm. The proposed FY 2026 budget would lock into law extreme reductions in funding for education, public health, scientific research, environmental protection, and other critical institutions. At the same time, it dramatically expands spending on the military and border operations, far exceeding what many national security experts deem necessary or fiscally responsible. Worse still, these proposals come on top of the $2 trillion in additional cuts Congress has already committed to under the terms of the Fiscal Responsibility Act and the continuing resolution. To approve this budget would be to compound the damage, endorsing a vision that undermines not only America’s long-term strength but also the economic security and civil liberties of millions of citizens. People are frightened—not abstractly, but for their financial futures, their freedoms, and their rights. Many fear their children will have fewer opportunities, their health and safety will be compromised, and their democratic institutions further weakened. Meanwhile, our international standing is deteriorating as allies view this trajectory as a retreat from global leadership and democratic norms. You were elected to serve the people—not to rubber-stamp an agenda that most Americans oppose. The lawsuits, polling, protests, and plummeting approval ratings speak with one voice: Do not pass this budget. I urge you to stand strong. Reject this proposal and insist on a bipartisan process that reflects the will of the people and invests in a just and prosperous future for all.
