I urge you to take immediate action to compel the Trump administration to release all funds that Congress has already approved—including those dedicated to public schools, clean energy, and healthcare. These funds were passed into law by the people’s representatives. Withholding them is not only harmful—it is illegal.
According to the Government Accountability Office, President Trump has already violated the Impoundment Control Act four times in recent weeks by refusing to release appropriated funding. The most recent violation involves the Renew America’s Schools program, a bipartisan initiative designed to help public schools modernize their infrastructure and cut energy costs. While classrooms struggle with outdated facilities and underfunding, the administration is blocking resources that Congress specifically directed to them.
At the same time, President Trump is pushing forward with $4 trillion in tax cuts that overwhelmingly benefit corporations and the wealthy, while working families and children see their needs ignored. His strategy—using “deferral” requests and secret budget rescissions—is a blatant attempt to delay, sabotage, or erase funding across more than a dozen agencies.
Congress must not allow the executive branch to usurp its constitutional power of the purse. If left unchecked, this abuse sets a dangerous precedent where presidents can pick and choose which laws to follow and which priorities to sabotage.
I call on you to take swift action to enforce the law, protect Congress’s constitutional authority, and ensure that Americans receive the investments in education, healthcare, and clean energy that they have already been promised.
