An open letter to the U.S. Supreme Court

Supreme Court: Trump vs. WSJ. Denounce Press Intimidation

35 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

President Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the Wall Street Journal and Rupert Murdoch for their reporting on Epstein is an abuse of legal process intended to intimidate the press. First Amendment expert Jameel Jaffer warns that lawsuits like this chill investigative journalism and suppress essential public oversight. Courts must not become tools of political retaliation. The role of the judiciary is to uphold the Constitution, not to enable powerful figures to punish the free press. This pattern is not new. In the 1930s, authoritarian regimes used courts to crush dissent and silence reporters. The United States has always stood apart because our Constitution protects even uncomfortable truths. This is not about partisan politics. It is about the rule of law, judicial independence, and the public’s right to know. We urge the Court to act with clarity and strength to safeguard the freedom of the press from legal harassment. Democracy cannot function without it.
