An open letter to the U.S. House of Representatives

Reject discriminatory GUARD Act against transgender youth healthcare

6 so far! Help us get to 10 signers!

The proposed "Guaranteeing Unalienable and Anatomical Rights for Dependents Act" or "GUARD Act" would severely undermine vital protections for transgender youth by denying federal funding to states that allow medical professionals to provide gender-affirming care to minors diagnosed with gender dysphoria, even when such care is recommended and supported by parents. This punitive measure disregards overwhelming medical consensus that affirming a transgender child's identity is crucial for their wellbeing and development. Gender-affirming care saves lives - studies show it dramatically reduces risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation in transgender youth. Denying this medically necessary treatment equates to discriminatory denial of healthcare based solely on gender identity. The government should not interfere with private healthcare decisions made between doctors, parents, and transgender minors. This regressive bill undermines well-established legal precedents and ethical standards by prioritizing personal biases over expert medical guidance. I urge you to reject this dangerous legislation that would endanger some of our most vulnerable youth. All children deserve access to appropriate medical care supported by their parents and doctors, free from discriminatory political interference. Protecting transgender kids' health and lives should be a paramount concern. Please stand against this misguided attempt to codify discrimination under the guise of "parental rights."
