Automatic voter registration, not automatic military service

If we're really concerned with protecting democracy, why aren't we legislating automatic voter registration at the age of 18? Selective service, being listed for the draft, is asking us to put our lives at further risk, let alone the risk of covid from disinformation and anti-mask laws at state levels, let alone going bankrupt from medical debt, let alone going hungry while the top 1% hoard corporate profits and avoid taxes, let alone the possibility of dying from pregnancy complications, let alone climate emergencies thanks to oil companies paying y'all off to hide their part in this worsening crisis. If we care about democracy, what's taking so long on ensuring and protecting our rights to vote, to have accessible polling places, to make election day a holiday so we can actually have the time without losing pay (because you know we the people don't have the time or energy for the legal battles with our minimum wage employers when we can't get time to get to an understaffed polling place and stand in line for hours). If there's going to be any automatic enrollment that will secure American freedoms, it should be automatic voter registration, possibly automatic healthcare enrollment once we get equitable healthcare as befits a nation claiming superior morals. We must be known for more than our military might if we are to survive the threat of rising fascism. Why not be known for our actual rights and freedoms, by actually securing said rights for every American?
