An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Reject discriminatory education policies impacting transgender students, minorities

This bill, H.R. 7683, raises significant concerns regarding discrimination and equity on college campuses. By prohibiting any repercussions against single-gender social organizations that exclude transgender students, it enables institutional discrimination against a vulnerable group. Furthermore, the broad language opposing policies that restrict "free speech" could be exploited to dismantle vital diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Higher education should be a welcoming environment that fosters open discourse while ensuring equal access and protections for all students, regardless of gender identity or expression. I urge you to carefully consider these troubling implications of H.R. 7683 and their potential to create a more divisive and exclusionary climate that runs counter to the values of an inclusive learning community. Policies should uplift marginalized voices, not silence them under the guise of unfettered speech. A balanced approach safeguarding both free expression and human dignity is imperative.
