I am writing to express strong support for the Department of Health and Human Services and deep concern about the reckless changes made under Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the Trump administration. HHS is responsible for safeguarding public health, supporting Medicare and Medicaid, funding life-saving research through NIH, and ensuring drug and food safety through the FDA. These are not partisan luxuries—they are vital functions that keep Americans and people around the world safe.
I do not oppose thoughtful reform or efficiency. But the sweeping cuts and rushed restructuring of HHS are not strategic—they are destructive. Over 10,000 jobs have been eliminated, gutting key divisions in CDC, FDA, and NIH. These agencies are critical for preventing disease, inspecting food, responding to health threats, and conducting research that drives global medical innovation (Washington Post, March 2025; Axios, May 2025). Cutting without a plan puts lives at risk.
Meanwhile, Secretary Kennedy has pushed dangerous misinformation about vaccines and undermined the credibility of health science. His false claims about vaccine ingredients have already contributed to declining vaccination rates and deadly measles outbreaks. Public health must be grounded in facts, not conspiracy theories.
If reforms must happen, they must be responsible, evidence-based, and in service of strengthening—not weakening—our public health system. I urge you to investigate these changes and act now to protect HHS from further damage.
