Elon Musk violated the privacy rights of millions of Americans when his unelected “DOGE” forced their way into the Department of Education. Without consent, his team gained administrator access to countless private records, including financial aid and academic records, all of which contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
The Acting Secretary of Education, Denise Carter, allowed Musk entry. Simultaneously, DOGE used private security guards to block out members of Congress, who have a Constitutional obligation to oversee executive branch activities. This double standard from Carter is a blatant violation of the separation of powers, a violation of the law, and a violation of the oath of office.
Carter isn’t alone, either. Numerous presidential appointees or their acting equivalents have enabled the DOGE’s unconstitutional work. That cannot stand.
Congress needs to grow a spine and quit playing nice. This isn’t business as usual. I ask that Congress immediately halt all proceedings and take up articles of impeachment against Carter and other officers who enabled the DOGE.
Congress needs to use all the tricks they have to grind DOGE and Musk to a halt. Run advertisement blitzes like it’s campaign season so people know what Trump and Musk are really doing. Announce investigations, embargo funds, filibuster, and refuse to cooperate on even the smallest measures. Compromise is what got us into this situation—it won’t get us out of it.
I am encouraged by what I’ve seen so far, but more needs to be done. Congress offered many soothing words, but what we really need now is action. What we need now is governance.
