Protect Scientific Integrity and Public Health from Political Interference

I am deeply concerned about the recent actions of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the MAHA movement, which are undermining scientific trust and public health in our nation. The resignation of four high-ranking CDC officials due to political interference is alarming and indicative of a larger problem.
The MAHA agenda's promotion of debunked theories about vaccines and environmental toxins is not only misguided but dangerous. This, coupled with billions of dollars in research funding cuts, is disrupting critical ongoing studies and data collection. The cancellation of $500 million in mRNA vaccine research contracts is particularly shortsighted, given the proven efficacy and potential of this technology.
The sidelining of the CDC from leading responses to major health crises is a grave mistake. This agency's expertise is crucial for protecting public health, and its diminished role leaves us vulnerable to future outbreaks and health emergencies.
Experts are warning of a potential brain drain and a diminished scientific talent pipeline. This loss of expertise could have long-lasting consequences for our nation's ability to respond to health challenges and maintain our position as a leader in medical research.
The changes to vaccine policies and advisory committees are especially concerning. These actions, combined with Kennedy's pledge to investigate autism causes despite scientific consensus on improved screening, are creating unnecessary fear and potentially reducing vaccine availability.
I urge you to take immediate action to protect scientific integrity and public health. Please work to restore funding for critical research, reinstate the CDC's leadership role in health crises, and ensure that evidence-based policies guide our public health decisions. The health and safety of our nation depend on maintaining trust in science and preserving our public health infrastructure.
