An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Support the John Lewis Voting Rights Act Now

45 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

Support and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. The Supreme Court's ruling in Louisiana v. Calais just gutted Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, allowing Louisiana to reduce its majority-Black congressional districts from two to one — even though one-third of the state's population is Black. Federal courts had already found that the original map either packed Black voters into a single district or split them across districts to dilute their power. The Court just said that's fine now. This is politicians choosing their voters before voters can choose their representatives. The John Lewis Voting Rights Act would restore the protections that the Court has systematically stripped away. I need you to co-sponsor it, champion it, and push for a vote. Anything less is a retreat to the era before the Civil Rights Act — and that is not acceptable.
