An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Compel DOJ to Release Full Unredacted Epstein Files as Mandated by Law

I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to compel the Department of Justice to fully comply with the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Congress passed with overwhelming bipartisan support in November 2025 and President Trump signed into law. The law required the Justice Department to publicly release all unclassified investigative files related to Jeffrey Epstein and his associates within 30 days, setting a clear deadline of December 19, 2025. That deadline has now passed by more than a month. As of January 2026, the DOJ has released only approximately 12,000 documents from what it claims is more than two million documents. This represents less than one percent of the total material, and what has been released is heavily redacted with limited substantive revelations. Most troublingly, the legislation explicitly required the department to provide an unredacted list of public officials and politically exposed persons named in the files. That list has not been released at all. The DOJ claims it is protecting victim identities through redactions, but experts note this is not a position the victims themselves accept. Congress exercised its constitutional authority when it passed this transparency legislation. The American people deserve to know the full truth about Epstein's criminal network and any public officials who may have been involved. When the Justice Department defies explicit congressional mandates, it undermines the rule of law and the separation of powers that are fundamental to our democracy. I urge you to use every tool available to Congress to compel the Trump administration to release the full unredacted Epstein files. This includes holding hearings, issuing subpoenas, pursuing contempt proceedings, and using appropriations authority to enforce accountability. The integrity of our justice system and public trust in government depend on transparency, especially regarding allegations involving powerful individuals.
