Route Government Energy Effort to Research, not Commercialization

This rebranding from the Office of Technology Transitions to the Office of Technology Commercialization signals a concerning shift in priorities away from fundamental research that benefits society. While technology transfer is important, dedicating government resources primarily to commercialization could neglect vital scientific inquiry motivated by the public good rather than profit motives. Unrestricted basic research has historically driven many of our greatest innovations and societal advances. I urge a rebalancing to ensure robust funding for curiosity-driven science conducted in the national interest, not just work tied to commercial outcomes. After all, the core mission should be expanding human knowledge and improving our shared quality of life.
