Senator Joe Manchin went on the weekend politics shows to float an idea which merits your consideration. While he opposes getting rid of the filibuster, Manchin has twice now floated returning it to its pre-1970 form. Senator, tell Leader Schumer to take. this. deal. The procedural filibuster has been a catastrophe for our country and for the institution of the Senate. Sure, some show-boats might hold up the business of the Senate on a semi-regular basis but there's a pretty decent limit on how long they can hold out just talking and the ensuring media circus in the era of the 24-hour-news-channel won't be kind to them. This is a path forward and the Democratic caucus needs to get behind it. You need to get behind it. Tell the Majority Leader you back Manchin's play and that it's time for the Senate to "return to its roots" with the same filibuster we all grew up learning about in civics class. If it was good enough for Lincoln it's good enough for the Party of Lincoln. Make the bastards talk.
