There must be some way to force a halt to the actions of Elon Musk and the unsanctioned Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The many reports regarding the unauthorized access — let’s just call it theft — and potential misuse of sensitive government data are alarming and unacceptable.
I couldn’t get away with this at any job that I’ve ever held. I would be held liable.
These unvetted and unscrupulous minions of Musk have shown criminal disregard for data privacy and security protocols poses significant risks to personal safety, national security, fair market competition, and the integrity of vital government programs.
Reports indicate that Musk and his unvetted subordinates have illegally accessed and downloaded sensitive personal data from multiple federal agencies, including the Departments of Treasury, Education, Labor, Health and Human Services, and others.
The unauthorized access to such data violates several laws, including the Privacy Act of 1974 and the Federal Information Security Modernization Act. Furthermore, there are concerns that Musk may be using this data to benefit his private business interests, create detailed dossiers on individuals and competitors, or even alter or delete data, potentially causing harm to millions of people.
The massive scale of this privacy invasion is unprecedented and undemocratic. I urge you to take immediate action to halt Musk's unlawful activities, investigate the consequences, and mitigate the harms caused.
Specifically, I urge that you oppose all pending nominations that enable this abusive plan, and prevent the consideration of any budget or appropriations legislation until taxpayer data is secured. After that you and your colleagues in Congress must launch a thorough investigation into the individuals involved, the data systems accessed, the intended use of the data, and steps taken to protect sensitive information.
They all must be held accountable to the law.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
